Founded in 1964, Crazy Shirts has grown from its humble beginnings on the sidewalks of Waikiki. What started as a little grass shack in Honolulu, Hawaii has evolved into a diverse group of over 40 unique shops that span the globe. You can find our casual apparel with original artwork and designs at your favorite vacation getaways, in our catalog store and on the Internet.
During the early 60’s, Waikiki's entertainment hub was International Market Place, where the first Crazy Shirts shop was born. T-shirts with a message sold. Some were silly ("Suck 'em Up!"), some were logos ("Surfboards Hawaii"), and some were controversial ("Draft Beer Not Students"). Timing is everything and Crazy Shirts was an instant success.
Like the sport of surfing, the popularity of Crazy Shirts has increased over the years. In the early 70’s, our shirts became available by mail order and offered shipping from Hawaii via airmail for an extra 35 cents. Full-page color ads appeared in national magazines like ‘Surfing’ and featured Hawaii guys and girls wearing our most popular designs.
More than just a summer fad, Crazy Shirts has ridden the wave of success for over 40 years. We continue to honor our Island roots as we reach out to new markets around the world. Today you'll still find our flagship store anchoring International Market Place. Known for offering the highest quality garments, we have harnessed years of experience and sharpened our expertise in product research and development. A proven leader in innovation, comfort and style, Crazy Shirts continues to develop new products such as our line of Specialty-Dyed fabrics (garments dyed in Kona coffee, beer, and volcanic ash) and our popular HydroPrint board shorts that change design when wet.
While pushing the envelope to create new ideas and products, Crazy Shirts has maintained its long-standing tradition of protecting our environment. From the use of eco-friendly water-based inks in the printing of our world famous T-shirts to our open-sided production facility cooled by the gentle Hawaii trade winds, we do our best to be good stewards of the land.
Our involvement in the community and support of various local organizations strengthens our sense of pride and responsibility to these Islands. That is why Crazy Shirts is excited to participate in (Project #501) and is proudly donating the volunteer T-shirts for this special event.
We look forward to building on our tradition by continuing to introduce new friends to our Crazy Shirts family. We're proud to produce T-shirts and casual wear with the spirit of Aloha. It's not just fashion - it's a cool and “crazy” way of life. Be original, be crazy!
